Green Compost in Agriculture for Development (GCAD) has successfully concluded the celebration of International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2026, held under the global theme:
“Compost Feeds the Soil That Feeds Us.”
The week-long celebration featured a series of activities aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of composting, sustainable agriculture, and organic waste recycling in Sierra Leone.
As part of the programme, GCAD participated in engaging radio discussions alongside development partners, including Welthungerhilfe, while also leading extensive public education and awareness campaigns to promote the benefits of compost use and environmentally responsible waste management.
The campaign encouraged communities to rethink how they produce, consume, and manage waste in order to build cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities. Through climate-smart solutions, GCAD continues to demonstrate how organic waste can be transformed into valuable compost that restores soil health, improves agricultural productivity, and protects the environment.
GCAD extends its appreciation to all partners, stakeholders, media organizations, and community members who participated in making the celebration a success. Together, we can continue turning waste into opportunity while building a greener and more sustainable Sierra Leone.
