Green Compost in Agriculture for Development (GCAD) proudly participated in the UNDP Sierra Leone Retreat held in Dorwaila, Kenema, following a special invitation extended at the end of the first week of July.
The retreat provided an inspiring platform for learning, reflection, and meaningful discussions on UNDP Sierra Leone’s achievements, lessons learned, and future strategies for advancing sustainable development across the country.
A key highlight of the event was the second day of the retreat, where the Founder and CEO of GCAD joined a distinguished panel featuring the Hon. Kenyeh Barlay, Minister of Planning and Economic Development; Mr. Fredrick Ampiah, UNDP Resident Representative; representatives from SEND Sierra Leone; and members of the UNDP leadership team.
The panel engaged in an open dialogue on Sierra Leone’s development priorities, the impact of UNDP’s interventions, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between development partners and local institutions to achieve sustainable and inclusive development outcomes.
As a proud beneficiary of the UNDP Growth Accelerator Programme 2023, the GCAD Founder shared the organization’s entrepreneurial journey, highlighting how the programme strengthened the enterprise and supported the expansion of its work in transforming organic waste into climate-smart compost that improves soil health, supports farmers, and promotes a circular economy.
The experience became even more rewarding as many young people, entrepreneurs, and interns expressed how inspiring the story was. The journey of GCAD served as a reminder that meaningful impact begins with a clear vision, resilience, and the determination to overcome challenges.
