Green Compost in Agriculture for Development (GCAD) conducted a practical training session on compost production and sustainable organic waste management for wetland-supported communities in Ribbi Chiefdom, Moyamba District, Sierra Leone.
The training focused on helping community members understand how locally available organic materials can be transformed into valuable compost for agricultural use. Participants took part in hands-on demonstrations, learning how to gather, prepare, mix, and manage organic materials as part of the composting process.
Led by Abubarkarr Ibrahim Ndopaie, Founder and CEO of GCAD, the practical session provided participants with an opportunity to learn through direct participation and demonstration. Community members were actively engaged throughout the training, observing and practicing different aspects of compost preparation and application.
The activity highlights GCAD’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture, soil health, responsible organic waste management, and climate-smart farming practices. By equipping communities with practical knowledge and techniques for producing and using compost, GCAD continues to support farmers and communities in making productive use of locally available resources.
The training also demonstrated the importance of community participation in building more sustainable agricultural systems, where organic materials can be reused to improve soil productivity rather than being treated as waste.
Through initiatives such as this, GCAD continues to advance its mission of promoting sustainable agricultural development and practical solutions that benefit farming communities across Sierra Leone.
